
Alan Wilcox

Alan is an experienced chief executive, manager, strategist and consultant. He has worked in several sectors advising on policy, strategy and operations. Alan and his Associates provide a range of management services including strategic advice, structure reviews, systems development, human resource development and change management. He also draws on his town planning background and advises in property development. Prior to working in his consulting business Alan held executive management positions in local and regional government and was the first Chief Executive of the New Zealand Land Transport Safety Authority.
Alan Wilcox, of Pakeha and Ngati Kahungungu background, is an experienced chief executive, manager, strategist and consultant. Alan was brought up in Kaiti Gisborne in a predominantly Māori environment. In his early career he worked with the Ministry of Works carrying out social impact assessments with Ngati Porou communities on the East Cast relating to forestry projects. He also wrote a government bulletin on planning to meet Māori needs after extensive consultation with Kaumatua around the country. As City Planner of Hamilton City he was also responsible for oversight of the Ctiy’s Māori liaison unit and worked closely with Te Runanga o Kirikiriroa. As a Group Manager for Environment Waikato he was responsible for Iwi liaison and worked closely with the Tainui, Raukawa, Hauraki and Tuwharetoa iwi. He was intimately involved in such projects as managing redundancies at State Coal Mines in Huntly, and Kinleith in Tokoroa, and worked with local hapu to put in place effective impact management strategies. As a consultant Alan has worked for a number of Iwi organisations, TPK, Trust Boards, Māori corporations and Wananga to put in place strategies with Māori. He is well connected in many communities around the motu with good relations with Kaumatua in many Iwi and a close friendship with the former Minister of Māori Development.

Carried out a number of service and development reviews for Turuki Health, a kaupapa Maori Health provider in Mangere, including establishing a service hub and looking at new services in West Auckland

Management adviser for over a decade to Supporting Families in Mental Illness, including carrying out a major national restructuring
Facilitated strategic planning work and direction with Midlands Health DHB
Assisted Clinical Leaders Association with strategic Plan
Assisted Health Services and Welfare Society with Strategic Review and Plan
Management coach to several Maori managers in Child youth and Family for several years
Reviewed and provided advice on social service provision of Ngati Ringanui in Tauranga

Provided trust documents, strategic plan and governance policies to Te Aroha Pa Marae, Kaipara
