Significant Achievements as Chief Executive of the Land Transport Safety Authority

  • Introduced a new Communications Strategy for Road Safety - with award winning advertisements, resulting in a 15% drop in the road toll in its first half year and long term reductions in road crashes.

  • Developed and upgraded New Zealand’s Road Safety Strategy and the Land Transport Safety Authority’s Strategic Planning documents.

  • Restructured the LTSA shedding 10% of its staff.

  • Amalgamated the Motor Vehicle Registry with the LTSA with no industrial problems.

  • Introduced modern planning and budgeting systems, performance management, remuneration and communications systems to LTSA.

  • Initiated the review of New Zealand driver licensing system, resulting in ID on Drivers Licences.

  • Achieved multi-million dollar savings in LTSAs operating expenses.

  • Initiated the relocation of LTSA in NZ Post Building with architectural award winning premises at no extra cost.

  • Initiated industry and regional consultative groups with key customers and clients.

  • Renegotiated financing of the LTSA resulting in an appropriate capital base.

  • Established Ministerial Servicing Standards Quality Assurance Systems.

  • Provided oversight to stabilize the Road User Charges System.

  • Prepared a Strategic Business Plan for the Pacific Island Business Development Trust.

  • Ongoing management advisor to Oranga Tamariki, carrying out many reviews, and management development

  • Coaching senior managers of Waitemata Health

  • Provided a Business Case for the Restructuring of the New Zealand Careers Service.

  • Restructured the Office of the Race Relations Conciliator.

  • Facilitated a Management Retreat for the Royal New Zealand Ballet - to re-establish its Strategic Directions.

  • Developed business cases for restructuring of 22 schools for the Ministry of Education

  • Carried out governance and management reviews of many organisations, Including Foundation North (ASB Community Trust) Federation of Family Budgeting Services, Otago Community Trust,
